Beating Swords into Plowshares: God’s Vision of Hope in the Prophet Micah (Fr. Joel Macul, OSB)

The prophet Micah is a good companion as we transit from the Christmas season into the season of renewal in Lent and Easter. Micah proclaims that God is our peace coming from little Bethlehem and when faced with our faithlessness, he “casts our sins into the depths of the sea.” As we look for a way to let the mysteries of these seasons make a home in our everyday lives, it is Micah who reminds us of what our life is to look like: doing justice, loving goodness and walking with our God (Micah 6:8). We will spend some time listening to Micah echoing God’s call to move through brokenness and disaster in our hearts and our world into his vision of hope for all. We hear him remind us that even in darkness, God is there as our light. Even in our willful wandering from him, Micah reminds us that our God “delights in mercy” and “He will be our peace.”
