St. Benedict asks this question in his Rule (Prologue 15). The whole Rule then is an answer to this longing of the human heart “for true and eternal life.” During this retreat for religious Sisters, we will look at the Rule, this timeless classic of Christian spirituality, for pointers to what helps us on this journey to life and “good days” here on earth and to what prepares us for the fullness of life in Eternity for which we hope. Our focus will be on the Rule’s Prologue which, like other famous prologues (cf. John 1:1-18), offers an advanced summary of the whole work.
