Jesus speaks of his dying and the cross as a “being lifted up.” For him his death is the climax of his life and the beginning of his return to the Father. In his Passion, Jesus dialogues with Pilate and speaks directly to his Mother and his beloved disciple. From his side blood and water flowed out. On Good Friday each year, we hear the Passion according to John proclaimed. In our time together, we will take a closer look at how Jesus’ being lifted up is the goal of his life and the moment of forming a new people of God. In being lifted up, Jesus reveals and glorifies his Father and our Father.
