Icon Writing Workshop (Dmitri Andreyev)


Christian icons have served as “Windows into Heaven” for nearly 2,000 years. Iconography is an art, but also rooted in spirituality. It begins with prayer and is executed with the sense that the seven days of creation are being represented in the artistic endeavor. This workshop is an instruction in icon writing in the Byzantine-Russian tradition. Its objective is the completion of one icon, provided attendance for full six (6) days and the completion of daily assignments as allocated by the instructor. For beginning, as well as for intermediate and advanced icon writers. Tuition includes 36 hours of studio instruction and all art supplies.

Please register by August 1. Instead of prepaying the full amount, you can mail your non-refundable deposit of $150 to St. Benedict Center, which will confirm your reservation, too. Please contact St. Benedict Center also if you will arrive earlier and/or depart later or if you would like to opt out of some meals. For vegetarians, St. Benedict Center always offers a full salad bar with cheese, beans and peanut butter to provide protein with the meal. On some days, we may be able to offer specifically a vegetarian entrée.

Dmitri Andreyev is the son of the well-known contemporary Russian Master Iconographer Vladislav Andreyev and trained under him. He is part of the Prosopon School of Iconology founded by his father, which maintains studios throughout the United States, Russia and Europe. Their commitment to iconography has led to thousands of new students practicing iconography through Prosopon’s workshops.
