July, 2025 - News from Mozambique

In 2015, the monks of Ndanda Abbey in Tanzania started a foundation in neighboring Mozambique. Unfortunately, due to unrest in the region, the first mission had to be abandoned. However, the Ndanda community was committed to return as soon as the circumstances allow and safe for the local population and the missionaries.

Fr. Alfons Holela, OSB sent an update on the development of the Mission in Mecua.

The photos show the church building configured with a seating capacity of 500. The walls are erected, the roof is almost finished, and work on the interior is underway.

In June, a huge mission cross, fabricated in Ndanda, was erected on the highest point of the plot, visible from far away, attracting locals to check out the mission station of the Benedictines. The cross watches over the monastery building, church, future clinic, etc.

We monks of the Mission House in Schuyler and of Ndanda Abbey are grateful to our friends for the prayerful and financial support of the Mozambique mission in recent years. Thank you!

Let us give thanks to God for the enthusiasm and dedication of the pioneer community at Mecua and pray that the seed of faith will mature.

From August 6 through 15, we will celebrate the Novena of Nine Holy Masses for the intentions of our friends and benefactors, and in thanksgiving for the help that we receive from all so faithfully, in preparation for the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary into Heaven.  (Please check out our current appeal which will be posted in a few days.)

YOU ARE ALWAYS INCLUDED IN OUR PRAYERS!
